About the Art:  This artwork, “My Daughter’s at Dusk,” draws inspiration from Julie Dash’s groundbreaking film “Daughters of the Dust,” with its breathtaking cinematography by Arthur Jafa. The piece evokes the film’s meditation on African American women’s experiences following emancipation, capturing that moment between day and night when the possibilities of their future and their past merge. Through this work, I explore themes of heritage, transition, and the complex beauty of cultural identity, paying homage to the visual poetry and historical significance of the influential cinematic portrayal of Gullah women at the dawn of the 20th century.

Original: A one of a kind piece of art.
